Hello to All!
On April 4th 2024 we had our first official Mogul Camp session at Snoqualmie Pass! The incentive was to work on several different mogul techniques streamlined for different bump shapes, types of snow, as well as overall conditions. We learned new exercises to increase fluidity, speed of turns, and energy management in the bumps. And so much more. We had a chance to fine tune each participant's style and technique individually and hopefully get a chance to shoot lots of videos for you to take home.
Moguls: As all participants skied moguls before, we ran through the two most common bump techniques first: The Regular Trough Turn as well as the Regular Bump Turn. For (give or take 70%) of the time, our Regular Trough Turn (we are allowing our skis to follow the troughs in between the bumps after turn initiation) is applicable and nicely doing its job. It will work for a variety of bump shapes and types of snow as long as we have defined troughs. It is the universal bump turn that will work in most conditions. This one is closely followed by the Regular Bump Turn (we avoid our skis being forced into the troughs by finishing the turn on the front of the bump before we hit the trough).
However, for a variety of conditions and bump shapes there are further bump techniques that will help us even better master our turns. We had a chance to focus the following techniques:
The Elevator Turn (for larger and wider bumps), The Jetted Bump Turn (for longer bumps or ridges especially in steeper terrain), The Step Jetted Bump Turn (for icy conditions), The Ridge Surf (for long ridge shaped bumps), The Bump Slider, The Little Grasshopper (for pure joy of skiing in soft snow bump conditions) and The Grand Grasshopper (for super soft bump conditions and for all adrenalin afficionados...this one needs absolute precision).
